History

In 1968, the Christian Senior Citizens Homes Society of Northern Alberta was registered as a charitable non-profit society under Alberta's Society Act legislation. So began the dream to provide quality living accomodations and care to the seniors in our Christian community -- all under the guiding principles captured in the name Emmanuel, "God with us".

Emmanuel Home first opened its doors as a brand new facility boasting 36 suites and several lodge accomodations. The original building is now called our "west wing". While most residents moved in by the end of November 1972, the grand opening was held in February 1973.

In May 1994, construction began on a new 51-suite east wing, as well as renovations to central dining and recreation areas. The Honourable Tom G. Thurber, Minister of Alberta Municipal Affairs, officially opened the new, expanded Emmanuel Home on September 30, 1995.

In late September 2010, we began an exciting new piece of our ongoing history with the construction of 56 new one- and two-bedroom suites.
